Title: Best Place to Live and Move!
Post by UmmYeahOk on Jul 20th, 2009 at 1:06pm
In 2003 CNN's Money Magazine listed Flower Mound as one of the most desirable places to live. Making it #2 Western region, under 100,000 population. Now in 2009, Forbes lists Flower Mound as the #6 best place to move to in the nation and #1 in Texas to move to. It refers to it as a Reloville... ...basically a community of people who relocate frequently for jobs.

Flower Mound was recently named the sixth best place to move to in the nation and number one in Texas by Forbes in the “America's 25 Best Places to Move” list. To locate America's best places to move, Forbes considered cities with populations of more than 25,000 and the number of people in each town who were born out of state or abroad, moved from a considerable distance within one and five years, and relocated for a job. Other factors included population growth, family incomes, people in executive and professional jobs, price, size, and age of homes, changes in school enrollments, and the proximity of multinational companies. The publication noted Flower Mound’s close proximity to DFW Airport, high percentage of adults with a bachelor’s degree or higher, and convenient access to global employers such as ExxonMobil, Stryker Corp., American Airlines, and Texas Instruments as factors in the high ranking.

I assume "Best Places to Move" is the same as "Best Places to Live."

From Forbes
To locate America's best places to move, we looked at "Relovilles" with populations of 25,000 and over. Using data from 2000 to 2007 Census records, we looked for the number of people in each town who were born out of state or abroad, who had moved to town from a considerable distance within one and five years, and who had moved for a job. These were weighted more heavily than other factors considered, such as Census data for population growth, family incomes, people in executive and professional jobs, and the price, size and age of homes, along with reports of moving van companies, changes in school enrollments, the proximity of multinational companies, and the observations of local builders, government officials and residents. Places with populations of less than 25,000, with large numbers of low-wage immigrant workers and with rotating populations of college students, retirees and inmates of prisons were ruled out.

Considering how many non-Texans, its no surprise. Although Im surprised the percentage is only 58%. I wonder if they consider children origins. In the 90s many children moved here, but in this decade many were born here. They say that 28% came from outta state after the 2000 census. This seems accurate, as the boom started to slow then, which would mean that many of those couples who moved in the 90s would now have Texas children today.

Whats interesting is that the median family income is $112,725, and the median home value is $232,600... ...So I guess that would mean that many people here have a paid off home. Who needs a 30 or 15 year mortgage with those kind of statistics!  ;D

In the Nation:
#6 Flower Mound
#7 Frisco
#9 McKinney
#12 Carrollton
#19 Allen
#25 Plano
#?? Corinth
#?? Southlake
#?? Coppell
